Abbey Winter Festival 2017

Historyworks had a great time supporting the Abbey People Winter festival 2017 and lights switch on, by Mario Satchwell and Helen Weinstein coaching and leading the Abbey Meadows School Choir for the event.  Helen Weinstein also suggested the theme for the lantern parade, based on the local history trail we have co-produced with children at the school. This was an exciting theme of Coprolite Mining in the Victorian period,  which dates back to the flying lizards called Pterosaurs which fished and pooed, flew and died in the area in Jurassic times. We therefore are very grateful to the ingenuity of artist, Jill Fordham, for designing shapes to represent the Pterosaurs which once flew over Coldham's Common, for which the children now well know the history from our trail and the set of new poems we commissioned by the famous children's poet, Michael Rosen, for the Pterosaur Poo Rap and the lyrics for 'Giant Lizards in the Sky' we've had arranged for voices by the musical arranger, Bethany Kirby.  To see a short film showing our lantern parade and our singing a medley of christmas favourites mixed with flying lizard songs, please have a look at the photos and films edited together by Lorna McLeur of Abbey People:
