Cycle of Songs: Arts Council Project to Mark the Tour de France
Historyworks teamed up with a variety of partners to win the commission for marking the Tour de France with an Arts Project in Cambridge. The commissioning partner for Arts Council England was Cambridge City Council, working alongside the Cambridge Junction, the Cambridge University Museums, Great St Mary's, and a wonderful range of musicians and community choirs, artists and composers.

Commissionig the Cycle of Songs artists and choirs based on historical sources pinned to Cambridge places
The main partner for the funding bid was Pilot Theatre, York, whose digital expertise was invaluable for the project. As Creative Director, Helen Weinstein commissioned the 9 pieces of music all inspired by research of history stories pinned to the route of the Tour de France through Cambridge. As Technical Director, Jon Calver recorded all the pieces top quality, with a range of particular challenges in the Cambridge locations and choirs. There were a range of public events on the journey with choirs performing in Cambridge locations, culminating in a mass grouping of community choirs and primary choirs who sung to the Tour De France cyclists as they cycled past the steps where our singers were assembled at the Fitzwilliam Museum. For the project legacy, the main delivery was a FREE app, with all the recordings delivered to your smartphone, which was produced by Historyworks and delivered by Calvium, using digital coded technology which pinpoints your geolocation in Cambridge and plays the closest song to your position.
